Fast-emerging and synergetic duo Anna Salleh and Guy Strazz will be performing at ODDFELLOWS HOT CLUB in Kempsey on Friday, 7 September.

Since Anna and Guy first graced the Hot Club stage, they have been on an exciting creative journey together, which has seen the birth of lovingly-crafted original songs, including lyrics set by Anna to Guy's award-winning tune Mandela.

This provides new spice to the bedrock of their brilliant show that breathes new life into Brazilian classics - from the Afro-samba Berimbau to the bossa nova anthem Chega de Saudade ('No More Blues'). Along with irresistible rhythms and melodies of other styles from Rio de Janeiro and beyond, virtuosic instrumentals, and much loved ballads, their performance is not to be missed.

Guy Strazz is a guitar master, composer and recording artist, who is well known for his albums and collaborations with artists such as Slava Grigoryan, Ashok Roy, Matt McMahon and Vince Jones.

Singer/guitarist Anna Salleh performs both nationally and internationally and has achieved great acclaim for her show ‘Gorgeous Songs from Brazil & Beyond’, which features some of Australia's best jazz and world musicians.

"I've had a life-long passion for Brazilian music," says Anna, who first fell for bossa nova when she heard the sound track to the film Black Orpheus, many years ago.

About 10 years ago she was recommended to get some guitar lessons from Guy and the rest – as they say – is history. “We both discovered we loved Brazilian music,” says Guy. "So Salleh & Strazz was a collaboration that evolved naturally."

“The combination of syncopated African rhythms, melancholic yet uplifting melodies, poetic lyrics and jazzy harmonies are a winning combination as far as I'm concerned,” says Anna.

“Way beyond The Girl from Ipanema, our music has broad appeal - it seems to speak to the heart, whatever your age, and no matter what walk of life you are from."
